EVENT DETAILS
TN Congressman Jim Cooper address Annual Conference attendees (2010)
Jim Duffett, Exec. Dir., Campaign for Better Health Care
THCC's Annual Conference is the largest gathering of health care advocates in the state. Even though we have jumped the hurdle of passing health care reform at the federal level, there is still a lot of confusion & misinformation as to what is actually in the law, who is affected, and when these changes take place.
At this year's Annual Conference, you will learn exactly how the new health care law affects you & your family. You can use this information when talking to friends, family, neighbors, & legislators about the benefits of the new law.
Also, the responsibility has been passed to the states for implementation of the Affordable Care Act. First at stake is the design and implementation of the State Insurance Exchanges, a state-based marketplace that will be used for individuals & small-businesses to purchase health insurance. There is a lot of flexibility in how states may design these marketplaces, & what the state legislators choose to do over the next year will shape the private & small-group insurance market for years to come. You need to be well-informed as to the choices the state has and how you can communicate what's best for Tennesseans with those making these decisions, your state legislators.
This year we have a STELLAR lineup of speakers & presenters. They include:
Wendell Potter, Former VP of Communications for Cigna turned whistleblower and author of "Deadly Spin"
Anton Gunn, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Regional Director
Claire McAndrew, Health Policy Analyst for Families USA
Patrick Tigue, Children's Health Care Coordinator for Community Catalyst
Dave Chandra, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
Janet King , eHealth Director for Middle Tennessee
Brian Haile, TN Department of Finance and Administration, Director, Insurance Exchange Planning Initiative
Chris Coleman, TN Justice Center, Staff Attorney, Constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act.
